EGADE Student Assists with Book to Enhance Companies’ Productivity and Efficiency
-

His work presents a guide to implement the model known as El Cubo, for continuous improvement in organizations from any sector and of any size.

By JOSÉ ÁNGEL DE LA PAZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Santiago Mayagoitia, EGADE MBA student at the EGADE Business School Guadalajara site, coauthored the book El Cubo. Guía para la mejora continua y transformación organizacional, published this year by the publishing house Alfaomega.

This is a peculiar and innovative work owing to its double approach to the subject matter.

On the one hand, it is a technical book that documents a useful, practical model to show professionals or organizations that continuous improvement means a great deal more than carrying out Lean Six Sigma projects.

At the same time, it is a dynamic novel in which two characters, Enrique and Daniel, share how to deploy the same model to develop and consolidate their continuous improvement program, without failing in the attempt.

“Our model is called El Cubo and is the product of over 25 years’ experience in collaborating to improve efficiency and productivity in multinational corporations. It generates quantifiable, sustainable benefits through the organizational culture, and is applicable in companies from any sector or of any size,” Mayagoitia said.

He explained that the model’s structure consists of six concepts (one for each face of a cube):

  • Foundations: are the elements that support a real change through the organization’s vertical and horizontal alignment.
  • Culture: communication, change and habits are three of the pillars of this face.
  • Focus: know the priorities for reducing costs, not quality.
  • System: Lean Six Sigma tools used on the basis of an orderly system applicable to all types of organizations.
  • Sustainability: maintain the improvements achieved.
  • Promotion: the personality of continuous improvement since it contributes to communicating organizational initiatives.

The coauthor commented that the El Cubo model has been presented at national and international events, such as the Mexico Business Summit, OECD Global Forum on Productivity and the IQPC OPEX Week in Australia.

The EGADE MBA student is the founder of CI Academy and Lean Six Sigma International, Vice Chairman of the Jalisco Coordination Council for Young Entrepreneurs,  and, in 2019, was named Engineer of the Year by the Jalisco Union for Societies of Engineers.
