EGADE Business School Professor receives distinction from UANL for his contributions to the private, public, and academic sectors in support of the economic and social well-being of the country

By JOSÉ ÁNGEL DE LA PAZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Everardo Elizondo Almaguer, academic leader and Professor of Economics at EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey, was invested Doctor Honoris Causa by Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL).

This distinction recognizes his contribution to the private, public, and academic sectors in support of Mexico's economic and social well-being.

In his acceptance message, Elizondo Almaguer warned that, although extreme poverty has decreased worldwide by more than half in the last 30 years, millions of human beings still live in conditions of vulnerability and marginalization, and income distribution inequality has grown.

"(These challenges) need rational, vigorous responses. Science offers some solutions, others must be sought in more efficient public policies, and still others, the most important, will have to be found in the field of philosophy," said the recipient.

Elizondo Almaguer has a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from UANL and a Master's and Ph.D. Studies in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.

In the private sector, he was Manager of the Department of Economic Studies at General de Aceptaciones-Grupo Serfín; Director of Economic Studies at Grupo Industrial Alfa; and Director of Economic Research at Grupo Financiero Bancomer.

He was appointed Deputy Governor of Banco de México in the administration of President Ernesto Zedillo and ratified by President Vicente Fox, where he participated in the design and management of a monetary policy focused on stability.

In the academic field, he was a founder and Director of the Graduate School of the UANL Faculty of Economics.

He is currently a professor at UANL and EGADE Business School and a visiting researcher at the Institute for Latin American Studies at the University of Texas

In addition, he participates as a columnist on economic and financial issues for the newspapers El Norte and Reforma. He belongs to various advisory councils in the public and private sectors.

The Doctor Honoris Causa was bestowed upon Everardo Elizondo on September 10th in a solemn session of the UANL University Council, chaired by Rogelio Garza Rivera, Rector of the Institution.

In the same ceremony, the Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Ana Margarita Ríos Farjat; the U.S. physicist, Bennett B. Goldberg; and the Mexican academic, Francisco Javier Marmolejo Cervantes, were also invested Doctor Honoris Causa.

Conscious Enterprises Center, Tec’s Bid for the Transformation of the Business Development Model

Submitted by jose.paz on Wed, 09/08/2021 - 14:00

Raj Sisodia, global leader of the conscious capitalism movement, joins as Distinguished University Professor of Conscious Enterprise and gives keynote at the inaugural event.

By INSTITUTIONAL COMMUNICATION | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Tecnológico de Monterrey, committed to the preparation of conscious leaders as part of its vision towards 2030 and 2025 strategic plan, is launching the Conscious Enterprises Center (CEC), the purpose of which is to develop a new consciousness in leaders, companies and organizations, contributing to human flourishing and attaining a more prosperous, fairer and more inclusive society.

CEC forms part of EGADE Business School and the Tec School of Business, and transversally promotes the principles of conscious capitalism, enriching this model and adapting it to the Mexican and Latin American context.

In order to drive these efforts further, Raj Sisodia, co-founder and global leader of the conscious capitalism movement, is joining Tec as a Distinguished University Professor of Conscious Enterprise. In addition, Francisco Fernández will be the Executive Director and Christiane Molina the Academic and Research Director of CEC.

Fernández highlighted the purpose of the Center and described the dream that will guide its efforts towards 2025. “The Center is an effort that joins a worldwide movement. We endeavor to be an actor that will accelerate and amplify the impact on even more organizations and individuals in Mexico and Latin America. With CEC, Tec has confirmed that it is a highly effective platform, a means of society for society that seeks to have a positive impact on the lives of millions of people.”

During the inaugural event, Dr. Sisodia offered a keynote address titled "Towards Conscious Capitalism," in which he explained that the nature of CEC is to provide mutual orientation and learning opportunities between companies that pursue the evolution of business in favor of conscious capitalism, thereby contributing to the development of institutions and business practice policies. He added that: “Tecnológico de Monterrey has the capacity and the opportunity to transform the nature of business in Mexico, Latin America and beyond.”

Molina explained that the Center, to invigorate the role of leaders, companies and organizations as generators of a positive impact, performs its work on the basis of the following four areas:

1. Specialized accompaniment for companies, based on applied research, to implement the conscious management model. A project along this same line is the “Decent Wage Calculator” and, additionally, the first book on conscious capitalism in Mexico is being prepared.

2. International community of conscious leaders and organizations to reinforce this network by promoting Tec de Monterrey’s philosophy and platform. At present, CEC has forged close ties with Conscious Capitalism Mexico Chapter, Sistema B, Alianza por la Inversión de Impacto, Iniciativa Capitalismo Social, PRME and the Global Compact, and will continue to incorporate more strategic allies.

3. Learning experience design to develop the mindset and knowledge that will translate into actions and impact. In this regard, more than 900 students nationwide have completed the course Conscious Leadership in Businesses.

4. Faculty with thought leaders who propel conscious leadership and culture. To this end, the first generation of 30 professors specialized in Conscious Enterprise have completed their training. Tec has strategic focus research groups aligned with the center’s topics of interest, in particular the Social Innovation and Sustainability Research Group and the group of experts in “Sustainable Wealth Creation.”

“The challenges we are facing nowadays are both numerous and complex. The leaders, companies and organizations of Mexico and the world play a fundamental role in finding solutions that will lead us to a better future. In this way, through the Center, we will be promoting a series of projects and initiatives to achieve a significant impact and renew the current development model, enabling us to build more prosperous, fairer, and more inclusive societies,” Dr. Molina commented.

Apart from the aforementioned personages, the event was also attended by David Garza, Rector and Executive President of Tecnológico de Monterrey; Juan Pablo Murra Lascurain, Rector for Undergraduate and Graduate Education; Ignacio de la Vega, Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs, Faculty and Internationalization; Arturo Zapata Guizar, Member of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Board of Directors, Mexico City Region, and Chairman of Corporación Zapata; and Eduardo Garza T. Junco, Board Member of the School of Engineering and Science, and Chairman of the FRISA Board of Directors.

CEC will soon be announcing new projects, reporting on developments, and disseminating the research findings around conscious capitalism.

EGADE Professor Shares His Vision of the Energy Economy and NCRE

Alejandro Ibarra Yunez

In a multi-author book that addresses perspectives for Mexico in relation to energy challenges and the transition to a low-carbon economy, Alejandro Ibarra Yúnez analyzes the growing use of non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE), among other topics.

By JOSÉ ÁNGEL DE LA PAZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Alejandro Ibarra Yúnez, emeritus professor of EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey, shares his vision of the energy economy and the growing use of non-conventional renewable energy in the multi-author book Energy Issues and Transition to a Low Carbon Economy. Insights from Mexico, published by Springer.

Edited by Tec de Monterrey Professors Francisco Lozano, Arturo Molina and Alberto Mendoza, the work brings together contributions from various areas of knowledge in a scientific response to the challenge of integrating energy sources and technologies that contribute to the urgent objective of developing sustainable economies with a low carbon footprint.

Ibarra Yúnez collaborates with other authors in the book’s initial chapter: "Historical Context and Present Energy Use in the Global Economy" and contributes with two other chapters entirely of his authorship: "Energy Market Evolution in Lieu of Fossil Fuels Use and Renewables Penetration Due to Regulatory Changes" and "Market Restructuring Due to Renewable Sources Evolution and Penetration."

In one of his chapters, the professor analyzes the dynamics of the development of an energy market with regulators that promote the participation of many companies, load centers and users, and at the same time assure energy supply for basic services, in reference to two markets close to Mexico: the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) in the United States.

“(The chapter) shows how regulations are adapting to the dynamics of these markets, taking into account all participants, and reflects on the possible ambivalence between energy policies and environmental-protection policies, and how to establish bridges between the two regulatory branches,” he explained.

In his other chapter, Ibarra Yúnez generates a flexible reference framework, emphasizing that markets must make a clear separation between the parts of the market that are natural monopolies, such as electricity transmission, and the competitive parts, such as electricity generation, part of distribution and marketing, with growing renewable sources and aggregators in the market.

Similarly, it highlights the crucial role of the wholesale market for electrical energy products, such as large-scale generation, significant demand or load centers, and the importance that said market, in the case of Mexico the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), contain other marketable products in bilateral contracts, but increasingly in the wholesale market.

"These products are power hubs, short and medium-term markets, Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) and Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), as well as traders or aggregators," he commented.

EGADE and Analytikus Collaborate to Analyze Educational Content with AI

Submitted by jose.paz on Tue, 08/31/2021 - 09:50
Analytikus

This collaboration will apply AI Class Analyzer, a solution that uses video and audio from conferences or virtual classes as input data to examine participation and information delivery patterns.

By INSTITUTIONAL COMMUNICATION | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey and Analytikus, one of the most innovative educational technology companies in Latin America, today announced their collaboration to implement an artificial intelligence-based analysis of educational content in the field of business.

This project embraces AI Class Analyzer, an Artificial Intelligence solution developed by Analytikus, which uses video, audio and text from virtual conferences or classes as input data to examine participation patterns and information delivery during the sessions, seeking to optimize learning in higher education institutions.

EGADE Business School will contribute the recordings of over 40 webinars presented as part of the series A la altura del desafío: liderazgo en el contexto de COVID-19, produced between March to June 2020, and the ongoing EGADE Future Forum

The aim is to explore and obtain data quickly and accurately, enabling informed decision-making regarding the optimization of the content of the webinars and, ultimately, of the EGADE Business School graduate programs.

"AI Class Analyzer uses session recordings to analyze class participation and delivery patterns. This AI solution generates a systematized analysis of patterns and behaviors from the sessions taught, and is a cognitive artificial intelligence-based solution for the visual and audio analysis of text and videos, respectively. The results of these cognitive models are visualized through PowerBI reports on the class content and student interaction and participation analyses," explained Miguel Molina-Cosculluela, Founder of Analytikus.

Applied in virtual classrooms, this AI solution manages content through class transcripts and captures the topics and words most often mentioned by students.

This is achieved through a systematized analysis of information, allowing teachers and academic directors to identify opportunities to optimize content and redesign classes, strengthening meaningful learning and student performance, motivation, and participation.

"At EGADE, we are constantly seeking to reinvent the business education experience, and these types of initiatives propel our innovative approach, allowing us to understand how students filter and interpret what they learn through the teacher in his or her role as a facilitator," commented Lucía Romo García, Educational Innovation Coordinator at EGADE Business School.

This confirms EGADE and Analytikus' commitment to innovation and educational transformation towards improving the quality of learning. The solution is expected to come into operation at the end of the third quarter of 2021.

About Analytikus

Analytikus is an organization selected by Holon IQ in 2020 as one of LATAM's most innovative educational technology companies, also a winner in LATAM and a finalist in the Global EdTech Awards (GESAwards) in 2017.
