Cristina Ferral, EGADE Business School Master in Finance alumna and professional soccer player with FC Tigres Women, was announced as one of the winners of the 2022 Tec Mujer Tec Awards.

The Tigres midfielder was honored in the category “Sports and sports management” in the eleventh edition of this award which recognizes the track record, contributions, and talent of women in the Tec community.

"(This prize) is an invitation to motivate future generations to realize that academic studies and sports can go hand in hand and that both can be achieved,” Ferral stated in a video posted on Tigres Women’s Twitter account.

BETWEEN CLASSROOMS AND FIELDS

Her talent and achievements in soccer offered Ferral the opportunity to complete her high school, undergraduate, and graduate studies with a scholarship, while, in parallel, advancing in her sports development.

Born in Ciudad Madero, Ferral began to display her outstanding talent as a child in the  Tamaulipas State Women’s Soccer Team, winning national championships over four years in children’s categories.

As a youth, she was called up to the Mexican National Team in the 2010 U-17 World Championship, in Trinidad and Tobago.

She enrolled at Tec to study and play in the Campus Monterrey women’s soccer team, accomplishing, during this stage, five national university championships and runner-up with Mexico in the 2013 World Universiade in Kazan.

She continued her studies at the University of South Florida, in Tampa, where she formed part of the women’s soccer team and completed her B.A. in Business Administration.

She subsequently embarked on her career as a professional soccer player, emigrating to France in 2017 to join Marseille Olympique.

In 2018, Ferral returned to Mexico to become a member of UANL Tigres and, in that same year, won the championship with the Mexican National Team in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, and graduated from EGADE Business School with a Master in Finance.

With Tigres, she has been a three-time champion in the Clausura 2019, Guardianes 2020, and Guardianes 2021 Women’s Liga MX tournaments.

Off the field, Ferral is known as the co-founder of the nonprofit Impulse, which provides support for low-income women student-athletes to complete their studies and play sports.

She also manages a private children’s soccer academy in Monterrey.
