Perspectives of the Mexican Economy Discussed

Everardo Elizondo

Everardo Elizondo offers a talk during activities for students to mark the start of the new term.

By JOSÉ ÁNGEL DE LA PAZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Within the framework of the welcome to the September-December 2021 term, EGADE Business School students attended the keynote conference “The Mexican Economy 2019-2021: Evaluation and Perspectives”

The talk was offered virtually on September 30 by Everardo Elizondo, academic leader and Professor of Economics at EGADE Business School, and former Governor of Banco de México.

Addressing students from all the programs and sites, Elizondo explained that the consensus among analysts is that the Mexican economy will grow significantly in 2021.

Nevertheless, he warned, even though the available information supports this idea, its realization will depend, among other things, on the evolution of the “third wave” of the pandemic and the government’s reaction

“Banxico is facing the task of controlling the ongoing elevated inflationary process, to bring it into line with its goal. The environment is characterized by unusual uncertainty and by international excess liquidity,” he claimed.

He pointed out that long-term, high and sustained growth requires private and public investment invigoration.

“This needs a stable macroeconomy and, above all, the validity of Rule of Law. Tasks that are pending,” Elizondo stated.

Osmar Zavaleta, Interim Dean of EGADE Business School, welcomed participants to the event. In his message, he urged students to be the agents of transformation and change that organizations require, seeking to contribute to the growth and development of Mexico.

“In the current context of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, I would like to share with you that now more than ever, having an academic preparation that gives us the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to face to the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities that this new reality has brought us is becoming increasingly relevant,” he emphasized.

In the September-December 2021 term, more than 1,300 students from the diverse EGADE Business School programs started classes in the hybrid format.

More than 200 EGADE Business School alumni connected virtually to enjoy the 2021 edition of EGADE's EXATEC Fest.

This celebration, exclusively for the EGADE alumni community, took place on September 23 on Zoom, after the live broadcast of the grand event, EXATEC Fest.

In his welcome message, Osmar Zavaleta, Interim Dean of EGADE Business School, congratulated the alumni for the results obtained in the QS Global MBA & Business Masters Rankings 2022

"Our school reaffirmed its leadership, with its master's degrees ranked number 1 in Mexico and Latin America, and, in particular, top results in the indicator 'Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes' both regionally and worldwide.

"These results fill us with great pride since, to a large extent, they are the result of the impact you, our extraordinary EXATEC EGADE community have made, and of your achievements as business leaders and entrepreneurs," Zavaleta said.

As part of the activities, the strategist and digital anthropologist Rahaf Harfoush addressed the alumni's talk "How to Lead and Thrive in Times of Disruptive Change."

The New York Times best-seller author explored the intersections of leadership, emerging technologies, and digital culture, focusing on the impacts of artificial intelligence, algorithms, social media, and big data.

"We are living in an era of humanness, and technology will force us to redefine what it means to be humans, set boundaries, have difficult conversations, and figure out these tools' roles," Harfoush said.

To bring the event to a close, Chef Iván Torrejón guided the alumni in preparing the traditional Chilaquiles Tec.

Before the event, attendees had already received a box with the necessary ingredients to follow the recipe during the event's closure.

By VALENTINA FLORES CÁCERES | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Customer relationship management leaders from different industries shared their experiences and perspectives within the EGADE Future Forum series.

Adriano Silva, Regional Vice-President at Salesforce México, and Fabiola Vásquez, Analytics and Customer Development Director at El Palacio de Hierro, participated in the webinar “360 customer vision: a unique engagement experience.”

The session was moderated by Jaime Martínez Bowness, Director of EGADE Business School, Mexico City.

“In the 360 vision, we have to evaluate differences to work in different spheres, including customer acquisitionconversion, and retention in the long term,” Silva commented.

Vázquez pointed out an increasing demand among customers for special treatment and a 360 strategy lays the foundation for satisfying them.

“A 360 customer vision is not an end, but rather a means,” she explained.

Silva commented that a 360 customer vision aims to place the customer in the center to identify their needs and opportunities for growth and enable the company to benefit both parties.

The experts agreed that organizations should start by having a clear picture of their purpose if they hope to increase customer value over time, reduce the abandonment rate and, in the same way, have a greater engagement, improve customer service, and grow customer loyalty.
