The entrepreneurial ecosystem in Latin America is booming, with sectors like fintech, e-commerce, and technology growing rapidly. However, before launching a startup, entrepreneurs must understand the key trends and challenges to achieve success.

This topic was explored in episode 191 of Territorio Negocios, hosted by Eduardo Aguiñaga, National Director of Full-Time Programs at EGADE Business School.

The discussion featured Leticia Robles de las Fuentes, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Konfío, and José Ernesto Amorós, Associate Dean of Faculty at EGADE Business School.

Both experts analyzed the key traits of successful entrepreneurs and the most common obstacles when scaling a business.

"Tech entrepreneurs are, above all, tenacious. They don’t take ‘no’ for an answer and seek innovative solutions to major problems in their home countries," explained Robles de las Fuentes.

Beyond leadership, she emphasized the importance of forming high-performing teams and leveraging technology to eliminate structural barriers.

Amorós highlighted the need for more substantial public and private sector support to improve conditions for entrepreneurs in Mexico and Latin America: "We need more robust financing programs and well-designed policies for early-stage companies."

He also pointed out a significant challenge: the lack of adequate connections between research and development and the entrepreneurial ecosystem. "We haven’t been able to efficiently transfer scientific and technological innovation into the creation of new businesses," he said.

Regarding opportunities, Robles de las Fuentes identified fintech, cybersecurity, health tech, climate tech, and business digitalization solutions as high-potential sectors in the region.

For entrepreneurs looking to scale their startups, Amorós offered three key recommendations: "Build a multidisciplinary team, identify real market needs, and establish strong networks with experts and investors."

Robles de las Fuentes reinforced the importance of being close to entrepreneurial hubs: "A great idea and a great team aren’t enough—you need to connect with talent, incubators, and venture capital in key cities."

Episode 191 of Territorio Negocios is now available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
