Territorio Negocios: Emotional Intelligence: The Spark of Entrepreneurship
-

Emotional intelligence becomes the key factor in creating and leading successfully.

By ISABELLA CASTAÑEDA RODRÍGUEZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Emotional intelligence and business success are connected and key to leading a company, as is having an innate curiosity and a desire to challenge the status quo.

In this 197th episode of Territorio Negocios, Eva Guerra, Academic Associate Dean of EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey, spoke with Alejandro Gutiérrez Dávila, President of the Mexican Society of Grillers (SMP for its acronym in Spanish), about the characteristics of entrepreneurs who prioritize this connection.

The conversation began with Guerra highlighting that, in Mexico, young people prefer to be entrepreneurs rather than employees. However, according to a recent Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report, most entrepreneurs in Mexico have not sustained their businesses beyond 3.5 years.

"Recent research also shows that entrepreneurs with high emotional intelligence tend to be more resilient, proactive, and better equipped to face the challenges of entrepreneurship," she emphasized.

Gutiérrez stressed the importance of aligning one’s life purpose with a company’s mission. He also discussed the value of networking, being authentic and avoiding decisions that could compromise an entrepreneur’s integrity and ethics.

The guest recommended books that helped his personal development, such as Brian Tracy's The 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires, Guy Kawasaki's The Art of the Start, and W. Chan Kim's Blue Ocean Strategy.

Territorio Negocios is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
