How COVID-19 has transformed corporate leadership
-

By José Ángel de la Paz

During the COVID-19 contingency, countless companies and their staff are proving that flexible schemes are effective and that working from home is indeed a viable option, according to Ignacio de la Vega.

“Organizations around the world are experiencing an accelerated process of digitalization and, as a result, the role of the leader is evolving,” noted the dean of EGADE Business School and the Undergraduate Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

These changes were discussed by De la Vega and Hernán García, Vice President of Talent and Experience at Tecnológico de Monterrey, in the webinar “The inevitable leadership transformation in organizations”.

“To some leaders this is the beginning of a new approach to work. For others, change started a few years ago and now it's simply becoming much more evident,” Garcia observed.

He added that, in this transition towards flexible schemes and working remotely, the challenge has always been to change organizational paradigms.

“Leaders must trust that their staff will do their jobs properly without being supervised, and break the paradigm of 'working long hours is very productive' because ultimately all that matters is the results,” Garcia said.

De la Vega pointed out that this crisis can become an opportunity to move forward, create added value and produce a positive social impact through conscious, responsible, and transformational leadership within organizations.
