More than 150 scholars, researchers, and doctoral students participated in the BALAS 2023 Annual Conference “Facing Deglobalization: Views from and for Latin America”.
This year, EGADE Business School hosted the event of the Business Association for Latin American Studies (BALAS), held from June 20 to 23, at the Mexico City Campus of Tecnológico de Monterrey.

In this edition, participants explored, in particular, the phenomenon of deglobalization and its impact on business, as well as solutions focused on Latin America.
Through the in-person and remote presentation of a total of 86 papers and cases by 156 authors from 26 countries, the tracks discussed also included management history and sustainable business.
The opening session was led by Horacio Arredondo, dean of EGADE Business School; Ricardo Buitrago, research professor at EGADE Business School and chair of the BALAS 2023 Annual Conference; and Urbi Garay, president of BALAS.

Arredondo commented that the 2023 edition of the BALAS Annual Conference made it possible to underscore the importance of business research in the face of deglobalization.
“As we navigate these challenging times, it has become increasingly clear that business research plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable development in Latin America and its impact on the world,” he stressed in his welcome message.
The program included a doctoral colloquium, plenary sessions, parallel sessions for paper presentations, panels, and networking activities.
Dionne Nickerson, professor at Kelley Business School, and Rajiv Maher, professor at EGADE Business School, talked about "Sustainable Business” in a plenary moderated by Christiane Molina, EGADE Business School professor and Research director of Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Conscious Enterprise Center.

In addition, Raúl Montalvo, director of EGADE Business School’s Guadalajara site, moderated the session “Meet the Editors,” with the participation of Niels Ketelhöhn, representative of CLADEA BALAS Case Consortium (CBCC); Jeffrey Muldoon, editor of the Journal of Management History; Nestor Salcedo, editor of the Journal of Economics, Finance and Administrative Science; and Ernesto Amorós, associate dean of Faculty at EGADE Business School and editor of Management Research.
