In 2016, Alejandra Rivero (MAF’16) founded Banregio’s Sustainability Department, marking the beginning of a strategic vision focused on social impact and financial inclusion.
Later, in 2020, she was appointed Director of Sustainability and Social Responsibility and joined the Board of Directors, solidifying her role in strategic decision-making and strengthening Banregio’s leadership in sustainability.
An architect from the Tecnológico de Monterrey and a graduate of the Master in Finance from EGADE Business School, Alejandra has designed initiatives that position the bank as a benchmark in sustainability, diversity, and gender equality.
One of her most notable achievements is developing Clara Banregio, a gender-focused free financial education platform.
Specifically designed for women, the platform promotes financial inclusion and economic equality. It addresses issues such as building a credit history, which is critical in a country where many women remain excluded from the financial system.
As Alejandra explains in a company statement, Clara Banregio aims to “raise awareness about our relationship with money, enable us to learn about finances together, and create a community where each person can find their own path to financial well-being.”
Clara’s impact is tangible. By 2023, the program had benefited more than 3,800 individuals, with 70% of participants making positive financial decisions based on the knowledge they acquired.
In an interview with Players of Life, Alejandra remarked, “In Mexico, it’s common for women to have credit cards as extensions of their fathers or husbands, meaning they don’t exist within the financial system.”
This focus on inclusion has led to significant changes in participants' lives, something that fills its creator with pride.
Clara Banregio has received international recognition. In 2023, it won the LOGRA Award in the People category, presented by the United Nations Global Compact, and in 2018, it received the Women’s Market Champion New Program Award from the Global Banking Alliance for Women for its innovative approach to gender-focused financial education.
Regarding the platform, Alejandra notes, “Clara Banregio, with its gender perspective, offers a more community-oriented way of learning. It is a tool facilitator that promotes dialogue about finances, advises women to make the best decisions, and fosters a healthier relationship with their money.”
In addition to Clara, Alejandra spearheaded the Mentoría Banregio program, which connects entrepreneurs with mentors to identify development opportunities and generate economic, human, and social value.
Under her leadership, Banregio has earned prominent positions in international indices such as the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index and the Total Mexico ESG Index, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
Alejandra’s leadership has crossed borders. In 2020, she was a finalist in the SDG Pioneers program, driven by the United Nations Global Compact and recognizes business leaders who integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their strategies.
Her career demonstrates how a strong academic foundation can enhance leadership and visionary transformation.
As part of the EXATEC EGADE community, Alejandra inspires future generations to lead with purpose, vision, and integrity, building a fairer, more equitable, and sustainable future.
