Studies indicate that closing the gender pay gap in Mexico would grow the GDP by approximately 70%, stated Alejandra García, OneMBA graduate and CEO of Sophos in Mexico.
“It’s not about quotas; inclusion and diversity comprise a huge accelerator in organizations,” the executive commented during the first online edition of Women in Business, within the framework of the International Women’s Day celebrations.
More than 100 EGADE Business School women students and alumnae participated in this chat and networking session to discuss female leadership in business.
García, who also graduated from the Women for Board program, shared four key elements that have helped her make her way in a male-dominated environment:
- Don’t be afraid: “Regardless of your age, anything you can imagine, you can create; believe in yourself and fight for the positions of your dreams.”
- Collaborate: “40% of Mexico’s workforce are women. The first thing I did was to change my chip; both men and women have capacities and what we should be looking for, beyond the topic of competency, is collaboration.”
- Learn from and lean on other women: “For those of you who have women in your teams, mentor them and work with them on a development plan. For those of you who are just starting out, look for a mentor who is more experienced than you and can help you fulfill your goals.”
- Further your education and preparation: “Always endeavor to be ahead in education topics. For me, the OneMBA opened up a whole new panorama.”
After the discussion, Anayenssy Nieto, sommelier from Casa Madero, led a virtual wine-tasting experience for all the participants.
