Can organizations remain truly human in a technology-driven world?
Yes, was the answer given by experts from Deloitte Consulting in the webinar “2020 Global human capital trends and purposeful leadership”, presented by the firm in collaboration with EGADE Business School.
The consultants explained that in order to overcome the challenges and recognize opportunities in the current workplace impacted by COVID-19, organizations need to generate a human approach, empowering people to work productively with technology, making three changes:
- Foster a sense of belonging amid a desire for individuality.
- Create security in a world of reinvention.
- Take bold action in an age of uncertainty.
These three changes represent a new set of attributes that characterize what it really means to become a “social enterprise”:
- Purpose: an organization that doesn’t just talk about purpose, but embeds meaning into every aspect of work.
- Potential: an organization that is designed and organized to maximize what humans are capable of thinking, creating, and doing in a world of machines.
- Perspective: an organization that encourages and embraces a future orientation, asking not just how to optimize for today, but how to create value tomorrow.
These statements have been drawn from an analysis of the main findings of Deloitte’s study 2020 Global Human Capital Trends.
Orlando Mejía, Organizational Transformation Leader at Deloitte Consulting México, underscored organizations’ need to optimize the power of people by connecting them to each other through a purpose at work.
Pierre Blancher, Senior Human Capital Manager at Deloitte Consulting México, indicated that organizations must capitalize on reinvention as a means to increase their collaborators’ potential and achieve long-term success at work.
Tobias Sattler, Managing Director of Human Capital at Deloitte Consulting Switzerland, commented that organizations must transform uncertainty into an informed perspective that will help them to move with confidence into the future of work.
PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP
At the start of the session, Hernán García, Vice-President of Talent and Experience at Tec, highlighted the importance of driving resilience in collaborators, through empathy, flexibility, and confidence at work in the context of COVID-19.
“Inside the organization, we need to understand the situation each individual could be living at home; as leaders, we have to be highly empathetic, flexible and have confidence in our teams in order to be successful,” he commented.
At the closing of the webinar, Ignacio de la Vega, dean of EGADE Business School and the Undergraduate Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey, highlighted that the pandemic underscored the role of business in building a better future.
"The Big Reset of society demands a new leadership, more creative, conscious, compassionate, empathetic, entrepreneurial, innovative, inclusive and resilient," he said.
