The Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), which includes EGADE Business School-Tecnológico de Monterrey as a founding member, is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Launched in 2012, today GNAM includes 32 leading business schools from diverse regions, countries, cultures, and economies in different phases of development.

EGADE Business School is the only business school in Mexico and one of just three in Latin America to form part of this global network whose mission is to drive innovation and create value by connecting leading global business schools, their resources, and their student, faculty, and alumni communities.

GNAM is a platform for innovation in business education; member schools connect and collaboratively develop programs that enable their students to enjoy academic and work experiences with multicultural teams in the context of the new global economy.

GNAM’s main programs are Global Network Weeks, Global Network Courses, Global Virtual Teams, and Student Competitions.

EGADE’s PARTICIPATION IN GNAM PROGRAMS

Over these ten years, more than 1,200 students from EGADE Business School have participated in the Global Network Weeks held in different countries worldwide.

For its part, EGADE Business School has offered over 30 modules in 25 Global Network Weeks, welcoming hundreds of students from other Global Network schools.

About 300 EGADE Business School students have enrolled in GNAM’s Small Network Online Courses (SNOC).

Furthermore, more than 360 EGADE Business School students have teamed up with students from other schools in the Global Virtual Teams program.

EGADE Business School professors have frequently contributed with articles and research in Global Network Perspectives, the GNAM blog.

In addition, EGADE Faculty have participated in Global Network Cases, with cases such as “IBM Corporate Service Corps,” “San Miguel: Expanding the Amaranth Market,” and “Walmart de México: Investing in Renewable Energy.”

GNAM’s tenth anniversary was celebrated with a series of panels organized by IMD.

MBM CEMEX Hacks

Four MBM students present a new line of products manufactured from CO2 capture at the CEMEX México virtual hackathon.

By JOSÉ ÁNGEL DE LA PAZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Their innovative ideas led four students from the EGADE Business School Master in Business Management (MBM) to earn second place in the 2022 CEMEX Hacks.

This edition of the hackathon virtual took place from May 20 to 22, with the participation of 55 teams of young university students and new graduates from Mexico and Latin America.

The members of the runner-up team from EGADE Business School are Temy Antony Moreno Clark, Alejandro Saldaña Jáuregui, Rodrigo Rendón Lozano and José Francisco Pérez Limón.

The challenge was to develop new businesses to address current and future opportunities within the construction industry in four areas of interest: sustainable construction; logistics processes and materials supply; optimization of onsite construction processes; and emerging construction technologies.

PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED FROM CO2 CAPTURE

The MBM students’ proposal was the creation of a new product line for the construction industry, made using CO2 captured directly from cement production.

“Since this is one of the processes with the highest carbon emissions, products such as solvents, sealants, oils, adhesives, and lubricants can be produced from the capture of CO2,” Pérez Limón stated.

“The benefit of this proposal,” the student explained, “is the mitigation of CO2 emissions, the vertical integration of CEMEX’s value chain, new business opportunities, and product differentiation owing to their negative  carbon footprint.”

THE EXPERIENCE

Pérez Limón pointed out that in the hackathon they were able to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired in the MBM program, particularly those related to innovation and entrepreneurship.

“It was incredible to learn about other innovative ideas and contribute to the cement industry, one of the main greenhouse gas contributors, in order to develop more sustainable and environment-friendly processes,” he concluded.
