Expansión magazine published, for the fifth year, its 41+1 LGBT+ in Business list, which, in its 2023 version, distinguishes an alumna and two alumni of EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey.

The list, compiled in conjunction with ADIL and Love4All, seeks to recognize people in leadership positions in Mexico who, from within and outside their position, help and inspire the LGBT+ population to live freely, visibly and successfully, thereby fostering a true environment of diversity and inclusion.

“[The protagonists of these pages] reflect on how they have aligned their professional and personal paths in companies, and how they pressure them to genuinely get involved in the cause,” the publication says.

The EGADE Alumna and Alumni on the list are:

  • Cecilia Medina (GBS’17)
IT Director for Digital Business Services Americas at British American Tobacco.

Cecilia is a founding member of the group for BAT LGBT+ employees in Mexico, Central America Central, the Caribbean, and Canada, and diversity leader in these same regions. Thanks to her involvement, BAT has become one of the first companies to participate in Pride Connection in Monterrey, and BAT México was the first of the group’s companies to participate openly in a pride parade. She was also the contact with HRC to certify the company as one of the best LGBT-friendly places to work, a certification it has achieved for three years running.

  • Fernando Iglesias (GBS’21)
Contract Manager and Personal Data Protection Officer for Latin America at Carrier

Fernando Iglesias is President of ERG Pride at the global level. He has transformed organizational culture to drive knowledge and the destigmatization of LGBTQ+ people. He has also implemented sexual orientation and gender identity non-discrimination clauses, creating an inclusive environment in the company. His leadership has left a lasting mark on promoting equality and diversity in the workplace.

  • Miguel Ángel Duvergé (MBA’20)
General Talent and Culture Coordinator at Grupo Proeza

Miguel Ángel has constantly sought to promote an inclusive and empowering environment as the first openly gay executive in the 66-year history of Grupo Proeza. In his position, he can now be seen just as he is, without fear and with the firm intention of building a better world for the members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The list was published in the June 2023 issue of Expansión.

EGADE Connects Latin American Entrepreneurial Families in the Family Business Tour

Submitted by jose.paz on Thu, 06/01/2023 - 14:01

As an academic ally, EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey hosted the online event that was broadcast live from the Monterrey site to the entire region.

By INSTITUTIONAL COMMUNICATION | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey was in charge of connecting more than two thousand leaders and members of Latin America’s entrepreneurial families through the Family Business Tour 2023.

As an academic ally and the host, EGADE Business School broadcast the event live, from its Monterrey site to an online audience in 18 countries in the region, such as Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Panama, and Ecuador, among others.

The second edition of the Family Business Tour, organized by the Argentinian firm Quirós Consultores, offered a program consisting of three conferences delivered by international specialists with the aim of providing tools, new approaches, and keys for strengthening ties in Latin American family businesses and developing their capacities to generate value.

In his conference “Generational succession process,” Horacio Arredondo, dean of EGADE Business School, stated that developing a new generation of entrepreneurs in the family requires the consideration of factors beyond the survival of the business and a focus on economic and socioemotional value creation.

“You need to acknowledge that there will be a change in mindset, that planning and formalizing processes will be key for the transition, and that you need to start decentralizing decision-making. In other words, preparing generational succession in the company means formalizing it,” he said.

María Fonseca, director of Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Entrepreneurial Family Institute, gave the conference "The fundamental role of women in the entrepreneurial family," noting that, according to a recent survey, women have fewer aspirations to reach executive positions or form part of the Boards of Directors in family businesses, contrasting with their greater preference for participating in social commitment or philanthropic actions.

“Family businesses must fulfill their responsibility to establish organizational structures that will enable greater diversity in Boards and in all other areas. The challenge of women’s projection in other roles still exists in this and all other types of companies, which is why we need to keep working to close the gender gap,” she explained.

In addition, Martín Quirós, director of Quirós Consultores, offered the conference “The importance of descendants,” stressing that intergenerational motivation is achieved when the opportunity to participate independently on a day-to-day basis is given, thereby generating merits within the family business.

Successors thrive on results, motivation, and recognition,” he said.

The Mayor of Monterrey, Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas, was invited to deliver the welcome message at the event, in which he highlighted the value of family businesses in the development of prosperous cities.

After the conferences, the three specialists closed the event by participating in a panel where they agreed that the value of collaboration is fundamental to the success of a family business.

The Family Business Tour was sponsored by Banca Afirme and enjoyed the support of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of the Economy of the Sinaloa State Government, among other agencies.

By JOSÉ ÁNGEL DE LA PAZ | EGADE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Federico Trigos is the first research professor from EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey to obtain a patent, after collaborating on the invention of a nanolubricant for machining operations.

This lubricant with titanium dioxide nanoparticle additions promises to improve machining processes significantly in different industrial sectors, from automobile manufacturing to electronic device production.

The patent is the result of the synergy between academia and industry and the hard collaborative work of a team of researchers comprised of Trigos; Laura Peña Parás and Demófilo Maldonado Cortés, from Universidad de Monterrey; and Gilberto Enoc García Acosta, representing Grupo Industrial Blomer and graduate of the Master in Manufacturing Management at EGADE Business School.

“This achievement fills me with great pride. It exemplifies teamwork between a company and research professors from different universities. This invention is expected to have a significant impact on the industry, promoting the competitiveness and growth of Mexican enterprises in the global market,” Trigos stated.

Trigos’ contribution focused on the statistical analysis of the results of the nanolubricant that offers numerous advantages over the conventional lubricants used in machining processes.

Benefits include a significant decrease in friction and wear, longer cutting tool life, improved quality of machined surfaces, and a reduction in production times.

Trigos commented that these improvements help to increase the efficiency and profitability of industrial operations.

The patent was registered under the title "Nanolubricant for Machining Operations" with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), and was promoted by Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad de Monterrey, Universidad de Montemorelos, and Grupo Industrial Blomer.

Federico Trigos’ achievement as the first EGADE Business School professor to obtain a patent underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering research and innovation. EGADE Business School is proud to have outstanding professors like Dr. Trigos, who not only contribute to our students’ education, but also generate concrete solutions to the challenges faced by organizations and society through research,” said Osmar Zavaleta, associate dean of Research at the School of Business and EGADE Business School - Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Before the patent was registered, the research project attained the publication of scientific articles and support from the Innovation Stimulus Program (PEI) of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt).

Trigos is a professor of Business Analytics in the Department of Marketing and Business Intelligence at EGADE Business School and lead researcher of the Transdisciplinary Analysis of Value Chains and Global Opportunities Subject Area Group, within the Research Groups of the School of Business of Tecnológico de Monterrey.
