Eugenio Clariond Reyes Retana (MA'72) is a visionary businessperson whose career has left a mark both in the private sector and in Mexico's social and environmental development. His professional life began at Industrias Monterrey (IMSA) even before he completed his studies at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and later a Master in Administration (EGADE Business School).
At just 22 years old, he took over the direction of PINTRO, a new division at IMSA. He later specialized in Industrial Management in Switzerland. Over the course of his career, he led and chaired IMSA’s Board of Directors, transforming the company into a global enterprise operating on four continents and active in sectors such as automotive batteries (LTH) and aluminium profiles (Cuprum).
LEGACY IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR AND THE REGION
His calling for business leadership has led him to serve as president of chambers and associations, and as an independent board member of numerous companies and institutions, including as an independent director of U.S.-based companies. He was also one of 33 entrepreneurs worldwide invited to the UN Earth Summit, reflecting his commitment to global sustainability.
Founder of Grupo Fultra and Grupo Cleber, Eugenio has led both projects toward sustained growth: Fultra is now the leading distributor of International trucks in Mexico and the U.S., while Cleber has become one of the fastest-growing automotive distribution groups in the country.
His legacy also extends to the metropolitan area of Monterrey. He was instrumental in creating Parque Chipinque and Parque Fundidora, restructuring Ciudad de los Niños, and establishing the Monterrey Metropolitan Water Fund Council, which he currently chairs.
A LIFE DEDICATED TO SERVICE AND TRANSFORMATION
Today, Eugenio serves as an independent board member of companies such as Grupo Industrial Saltillo, Exel del Norte, and Corporativo Energex, and as an active member of organizations such as IMCO, Pronatura Noreste, Terra Habitus, and the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature. His leadership also extends to the financial sector as an advisor to the Bank of Mexico for the northeastern region.
Eugenio received the EXATEC Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 for his business legacy and social commitment.
A LASTING BOND WITH THE INSTITUTION
Eugenio highlights the transformative power of his education: “I am where I am, and the success I’ve had in business is largely due to what I studied and learned here.”
In an interview with CONECTA, he shared that his passion for education and his appreciation for Tec motivated him not only to pursue a master’s degree but also to return as a professor at his alma mater: “Since I finished my master’s degree, and especially after getting to know the rector (Rafael Rangel) better, I began teaching and participating in several courses, and it always gave me great satisfaction to do so. Not only did they learn, but I also learned from the experiences of young people and how things have evolved.”
In addition to joining the faculty, Eugenio was part of the Governing Board of Tecnológico de Monterrey for more than 35 years.
A career that exemplifies the power of leading with purpose, social awareness, and global vision. A true EXATEC EGADE who inspires others to transform the present and build the future.
