Gabriela Siller Pagaza (MAF'01, DFA'06) has established herself as one of the most influential voices in economic analysis in Mexico.
She is currently Director of Economic Analysis at Grupo Financiero BASE and a professor of Economics at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where she shares her passion for understanding and explaining economics clearly and accessibly with new generations.
Gabriela holds a degree in Economics from UANL and graduated from the Master in Finance and the PhD in Philosophy in Management programs at EGADE Business School.
She has been a member of the IMEF Indicator Technical Advisory Committee and the IMEF Economic Studies Committee, in addition to serving as a board member of several companies.
Her leadership and trajectory have led her to be repeatedly recognized (2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022) in Forbes México's list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico. In 2023 and 2024, she was also named among the most influential economists in Mexico by the same publication.
Gabriela stands out for bringing economic topics closer to the public through her media collaborations and her constant participation in national and international conferences and forums.
She has taught courses in various financial institutions and has given conferences in the United States, Costa Rica, and Poland. Additionally, she is a member of the American Finance Association and a certified trainer by the Mexican Association of Stock Market Intermediaries (AMIB).
She has several publications, notably the chapter "Everything One Should Know About the Exchange Rate," included in the book Lecturas en lo que indican los indicadores, coordinated by Jonathan Heath.
She has received multiple recognitions, including the Mujer Tec Award in 2013; honorable mention in the XX IMEF-Deloitte Financial Research Award in 2004; the “Maestro Ricardo Torres Gaitán” Award from the Institute of Economic Research at UNAM in 2001, and distinctions from the National System of Researchers.
A TRAILBLAZING ECONOMIST
Throughout her career, Gabriela has shown a firm commitment to promoting female participation in the financial sector, historically led by men.
As she expresses: "Among my achievements is paving the way for women in the financial market, a world led by men. Also, making economic analysis understandable for everyone. In my community, my contribution has been to show that it is possible to balance work with family life. I would like to be an inspiration for other women, especially young women who want to excel in their work without sacrificing being wives and mothers."
Gabriela considers her time at EGADE Business School fundamental in strengthening her leadership: "At Tec, they teach you to be efficient, to handle several topics at once and do everything well. The culture is one of excellence. They teach you to be a leader."
A VISION FOR CHANGE
For her, the business world is facing accelerated transformations driven by technology, which demands adaptable leaders with a capacity for constant learning.
"Business is evolving towards greater use of technology. Changes are happening faster and faster. Business leaders must have the capacity to adapt and learn quickly. Moreover, they must be able to anticipate changes, not just follow them but lead them," she notes.
Convinced that gender equality is key to progress, Gabriela has affirmed: "Both men and women should be able to hold positions according to their education and experience. The financial sector is an area that has historically been represented by a male figure, so it is positive that it is now moving towards gender equality."
With an exemplary career and unwavering commitment to inclusion, academic excellence, and economic outreach, Gabriela is a source of pride for the EXATEC EGADE community and a role model for future generations seeking to transform society through knowledge and leadership.
