Boyd Cohen

Since obtaining his Ph.D. in strategy and entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado in 2001, Boyd Cohen focused on accelerating the path to a low-carbon sustainable economy for the past two decades. This included publishing three books (Post-Capitalist Entrepreneurship: Startups for the 99%, The Emergence of the Urban Entrepreneur, and Climate Capitalism: Capitalism in the Age of Climate Change), multiple peer-reviewed articles, and starting a handful of ventures in the smart cities and sustainability arena. Boyd’s writings and thought leadership have been published in Fast Company, CoinDesk, and numerous smart cities publications. At the same time, the Smart Cities Wheel has been leveraged by governments around the globe to benchmark, rank, and strategize their path to a net zero future. His previous academic posts have been at IE (Spain), University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University (Canada), INCAE (Costa Rica), Universidad del Desarrollo (Chile), and EADA Business School (Spain), where he was Dean of Research. Boyd holds an International Fellow from Hult International Business School in the Future’s Impact Lab. He is finishing his fourth book (Abundance Capitalism), and is on the Board of Iomob, a Web2 and Web3 software startup he cofounded in smart mobility.

Eduardo Enrique Aguiñaga Maldonado

Dr. Aguiñaga’s research focuses on sustainability and innovation issues, mainly on the concept of circular economy. Thanks to his knowledge of circular economy, he acquired the position of Circular Economy Leader at HEINEKEN Mexico, where he led the company's transition strategy into this new economic model.

As a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, he has published various scientific articles. His articles have been published in academic journals such as The Journal of Cleaner Production and Management Research and The Journal of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management.

He has also collaborated on several consulting projects on waste valorization in Mexico and Latin America.

Dr. Aguiñaga holds the title of National Director of the Full-Time Programs at EGADE Business School. His responsibility includes the direction of the Master in Business Management and the EGADE Full-Time MBA.

Carlos Scheel

Carlos Scheel has been a professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey since 1973. As an expert in innovation, technology and sustainability strategies, Dr. Scheel’s research and teaching focuses on the areas of complex systems dynamics, technological innovation, innovation clusters strategies, the creation of unusual business models, technology-based entrepreneurship, distributed systems and information technology, concepts on which he has delivered short courses and specialized seminars in more than 30 institutions in 16 countries.

Since 2007, he has designed and validated the SWIT model (Sustainable Wealth creation based on Innovation and Technology) in several countries in order to create sustainable regional wealth at three empowering levels: Zero-value Residues Industrial Ecology Systems (ZRIES); Circular Value Ecosystems (CVES); the creation of regional sharing value systems (SVS) and the development of conditions and infrastructure for Innovacities.

Throughout his career, Dr. Scheel has been a consultant in international technical co-operation for a number of governments. He has participated in more than 20 international projects for the development of strategies, systems and policies for the implementation of industrial clusters; as well as science and technology innovation programs related to regional innovation systems, including, transfer, technological co-operation and technology-based entrepreneurship. These projects have been sponsored by bodies such as BID, UNIDO, USAID, the World Bank, PNUD, UNEP, EU Framework Programs and domestic governments.

Professor Scheel is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, SNI (National System of Researchers), Level 1 since 2007, and since 1989 he is a senior researcher at the Innovation, Creativity and Capital Institute (IC2) of the University of Texas, Austin (USA). Previously, he served as Director of the Postgraduate School of Information Technologies, Electronics, and Telecommunications of the Tecnológico de Monterrey (1985-2001).
