The Second Edition of the EGADE U Week Will Empower Leaders’ Minds

With the aim of exploring new and relevant issues in today's business world, the second edition of EGADE U Week will focus on empowering leaders’ minds to help them and their organizations pay more attention to people and obtain greater performance and better results at the organizational level.

This innovative and intensive Lifelong Learning program exclusively for EGADE Business School graduates will provide the tools and techniques required to achieve strategic objectives, thereby improving performance, creativity and resilience. The event is being organized in conjunction with Potential Project, a global leader in organizational and leadership development programs based on mindfulness.

To be held on March 27th and 28th at the EGADE Business School Mexico City site, EGADE U Week 2020 will include conferences, workshops and activities designed to create high-impact interactions with leading international professors, and renowned leaders, disruptors and entrepreneurs.

The theme of this year’s program is “Empowering the Leader's Mind”, with a focus on three central leadership qualities:

  • Mindful Leadership: A culture of mindfulness, connection and contribution is essential for any successful organization.
  • Selfless Leadership: Leadership is about achieving results by empowering others.
  • Compassionate Leadership: Encouraging compassion allows leaders to contribute to the prolonged happiness and well-being of others, while self-compassion is crucial for maintaining high performance.

The keynote speakers of EGADE U Week 2020 are:

  • Ignacio de la Vega, Dean of EGADE Business School and Tecnológico de Monterrey’s School of Business.
  • Jacqueline Carter, expert in Mindfulness, Leadership and Organizational Culture, and international partner and director of Potential Project, North America, a firm that has helped leading companies such as Accenture, Cisco, LEGO, Microsoft and Unilever improve performance, innovation and resilience through the understanding and training of managers’ and executives’ minds.
  • Jaime García Narro, Associate Dean of Executive Education at EGADE Business School.
  • Arnoldo de la Rocha, entrepreneur and founding partner of Pollo Feliz, a leading restaurant chain in its field with more than 800 branches and 20,000 employees in Mexico and the United States.

MAF Student Wins First Place in the Actinver Stock Market Challenge

Miguel Ángel Vázquez Rubio, Master in Finance student at EGADE Business School, won first place in the Actinver Stock Market Challenge 2019.

In this competition, participants received one million virtual pesos to invest in a Mexican Stock Exchange simulator.

After six weeks of transactions, including buying and selling stocks, the three overall winners were selected on the basis of the investment portfolios that achieved the best returns.

In this eleventh edition of the challenge, Vázquez Rubio won first place with a 27.59% profit, outperforming more than 10 thousand competitors.

“To win, you need to take risks. For example, in stock market simulators, if you play with an aggressive rather than a conservative investment strategy, you will obtain the best results,” commented the student.

Vázquez Rubio highlighted the technology tools to which he has access as a Master in Finance student and that help him to master the stock market facet of the world of finance, such as the Bloomberg, Reuters EIKON and S&P Capital IQ platforms, available in the EGADE Business School’s Business Intelligence Room.

The Actinver Stock Market Challenge 2019 award ceremony took place on December 3rd at the Mexican Stock Exchange in Mexico City.

EGADE, Forever! Class of December 2019 Graduates

A total of 470 students received their academic degrees during the December 2019 EGADE Business School Graduation Ceremonies.

This new generation of transforming business leaders is comprised of 53 specialists, 407 masters and 10 doctors, from diverse cities of Mexico, as well as from Germany, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, U.S.A., France, India, Italy, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Taiwan, Uruguay and Venezuela.

On this occasion, students graduated from the following programs: 53 from the Specialization in Energy Management, 255 from the EGADE MBA, 21 from the Full-Time MBA in Innovation & Entrepreneurship, 18 from the MBA in Global Business & Strategy, 1 from the Master in Business Administration, 1 from the Master in International Business, 94 from the Master in Finance and 17 from the Master in Business Management, the latter are the first generation of this program.

In addition, 7 students from the PhD in Administrative Sciences and 3 from the PhD in Financial Sciences received their diplomas and institutional medals for the highest academic degree awarded by the School.

Graduation ceremonies for EGADE Business School students from Mexico City, Querétaro, Lima and Panama were held on December 11, in a joint event at Campus Santa Fe.

EGADE Business School students in Monterrey graduated on December 14 at their site, while their counterparts in Guadalajara enjoyed a graduation breakfast followed by a joint ceremony with Tec undergraduate students to receive their diplomas, on December 18, at the campus in that city.

In Mexico City and Monterrey, the ceremonies were presided over by Ignacio de la Vega, dean of EGADE Business School, as well as site directors and academic leaders.

David Garza, rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey, also participated in the Monterrey ceremony.

“I would like to congratulate you for putting the decision you made to continue with your education into action and today you can see the results. You have the privilege of having received a graduate education. Demonstrate it with ambitious goals and by having an impact on many, many lives,” Garza said.

In Mexico City, Anasofía Sánchez, CEO of Waze in Mexico, served as guest speaker. 

“Look out for others and your teams; the best asset you will ever have is people. Never forget how lucky you are and always try to empower the people around you,” Sánchez claimed.

In Monterrey, the guest of honor was María Ariza, CEO of Bolsa Institucional de Valores (Biva).

“Mexico needs leaders with a profound sense of social commitment, who are willing not only to generate value for their companies, but also for society as a whole. I am convinced that there are no people better trained to resolve our challenges than the leaders who are graduating today,” Ariza said.

In the ceremonies, De la Vega congratulated the graduates for their incorporation into the EGADE Business School Alumni community and urged them to play a leading role in bringing about change in Mexico and Latin America.

“I would like to invite you to preserve this sense of purpose in the development of your careers and lives. Today, you have a great opportunity and, above all, responsibility to be the conscious leaders our society needs,” the dean declared.

Andrés Antonio Oconitrillo Muñoz, Master in Finance student, delivered a message on behalf of his generation in Mexico City. 

“Enjoy this achievement and let’s use the knowledge acquired with the greatest integrity, to benefit our countries and communities,” he said.

In the same way, Rodrigo Alfredo Morales Fernández Rafaelly, Master in Finance student, shared a few words with his peers in Monterrey.

“Let’s always be upright individuals, with well-defined, unshakeable values and principles, never choosing the quick paths that go against our ethics and morals,” he stated.

With this new generation, EGADE Business School has awarded a total of 8,444 academic degrees to date.

EGADE Alumni Celebrate the Achievements of 2019 and Share Objectives for 2020

More than 700 alumni gathered for the traditional EGADE Business School Alumni Year-End Party, in order to celebrate their achievements and goals fulfilled in 2019, and share their objectives and projects for 2020.

In Guadalajara, the celebration was held on November 28 in the restaurant Bruna and the following day in Mexico City at the Interactive Museum of Economics (MIDE), where the attendees visited the exhibition halls.

In Querétaro, the venue for the party, held on December 4, was the restaurant Emilia, while Monterrey celebrated on December 5 at Museo MARCO, where they toured the exhibition "Restablecer memorias" (Restoring Memories), by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.

“I would like to extend my best wishes to each and every one of our EGADE Alumni, members of an extraordinary entrepreneurial community that consciously leads the future of our country, and is characterized by the constant search for continuous improvement and fulfillment through lifelong learning,” said Ignacio de la Vega, dean of EGADE Business School, during the event in Monterrey.

In addition, De la Vega invited the former students to participate in the second edition of EGADE U Week, an exclusive Lifelong Learning program for graduates, to be held on March 27 and 28, 2020, in Mexico City, with the title “Empowering the leader’s mind”.

The EGADE Business School Alumni community is made up of more than 20,000 graduates over five continents, renowned for creating, transforming and leading the sustainable, competitive development of businesses and organizations worldwide.

EGADE Business School Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Welcomes 122 New Members

In recognition of their outstanding academic performance, 122 EGADE Business School students were accepted as members of the exclusive international honor society Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS).

The new members of the EGADE Business School BGS Chapter were inducted in diverse ceremonies held in November and December in Santa Fe, Monterrey and Guadalajara, where students from these three sites, as well as Querétaro and LATAM, were recognized.

“I would like to invite you to accept the commitment you have taken on as appointed members of Beta Gamma Sigma, and fulfill it from your leadership positions in businesses through the creation of shared value for the transformation of society,” said Ignacio de la Vega, Dean of EGADE Business School, during the ceremony held in Monterrey.

With these inductions, the number of members of the EGADE Business School BGS Chapter, founded in 2016, rose to 324.

BGS members are recognized as “Best in Business”, since they belong exclusively to institutions accredited by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), which represent 5% of business schools worldwide.

The BGS membership awarded to students is for life. To be eligible at the master’s level, students must be among the top 20% of their class, while 100% of doctoral candidates are accepted.

This year and for the first time ever, the EGADE Business School Chapter was awarded Honors, within the BGS Chapter Honor Roll in the 2018-2019 academic year, for outstanding engagement of the chapter members and driving participation in the BGS global network.

BGS, founded in 1913, has more than 600 chapters across the world and 875 thousand members from over 190 countries.

Sixth Generation of the +Talento Diploma Course Graduates in Monterrey

The sixth generation of the +Talento Diploma Course in Monterrey graduated from this training program offered in an alliance between EGADE Business School, Movimiento Congruencia and Éntrale.

In this edition, there were 12 participants from CEMEX, Heineken, Home Depot, Proeza, Sigma Alimentos and UDEM, who received their diplomas certifying them as specialists in project design regarding workplace inclusion for persons with disabilities.

The ceremony was presided over by Osmar Zavaleta, director of the EGADE Business School Monterrey site; Angie Ruiz, Culture and Transformational Experience at ALFA, and treasurer of the Movimiento Congruencia Board; José Carrillo, managing partner of Amrop Seeliger y Conde, and member of the Movimiento Congruencia board; and Rocío Garza, manager of Movimiento Congruencia.

“The program you are finishing today has allowed you to develop new attitudes, skills and knowledge; empowered you as agents of change in your companies; and given you the opportunity to work together to build valuable synergies to favor workplace inclusion for persons with disabilities in Mexico,” Zavaleta said.

Movimiento Congruencia is an initiative of the business sector that works to provide equal opportunities for the social and workplace inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Éntrale "Alliance for the workplace inclusion of persons with disabilities” is an initiative of the Mexican Business Council, created to link intentions, connect opportunities and shift paradigms to favor workplace inclusion for persons with disabilities in Mexico.

Since it was launched in 2016, the +Talento Diploma Course has prepared six generations in Monterrey and two in Mexico City. Both sites will be offering this program again in 2020.

Dr. Reficco Explains Latin American CSR Trends in China

In order to share aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) trends in the Latin American region, Dr. Ezequiel Reficco was invited to the “Advancing China and LAC’s Sustainable Development Seminar”, held in September 2019, in Beijing, China.

The EGADE Business School research professor joined approximately 40 international CSR experts, who exchanged points of view with representatives from international organizations and China’s private sector.

The seminar was convened by the think tanks Inter-American Dialogue, Beijing Rongzhi Corporate Social Responsibility Institute and Charhar Institute.

At the seminar, Reficco participated in the panel “Corporate social responsibility in Latin America: wide-ranging requirements and expectations”, with specialists from law firms, such as TozziniFreire Advogados (Brazil), and academic and research institutions, including Centro Vincular de Sostenibilidad Corporativa (Chile), Universidad del Pacífico (Peru), Comunidad de Estudios Chinos y Latinoamericanos (China), Fudan University (China), among others.

The participants, Reficco explained, examined the efforts made by Chinese companies to meet Latin America’s expectations and international standards in relation to corporate social responsibility.

“The group also discussed the structural factors that contribute to achieving best outcomes and sustainable operations in Latin America, seeking to help China succeed in its agenda in the region and generate broader support for the fulfillment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.

During the exchange with experts, Reficco put forward his interest in investigating the effect of overseas social investments by Chinese firms.

Within this area of research, last May, Reficco won the 2018 Case Writing Competition of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), in the “Inclusive Business Models” category, for the case For&From: Inditex Group’s Social Franchise.

EGADE’s MBM wins an EQUAA Prize for the best educational innovation project in Mexico

EGADE Business School’s Master in Business Management (MBM) program has won the EQUAA Innovation Award 2019 International Prize for the best educational innovation project in Mexico.

The awards ceremony was held on November 29th in the framework of the VI EQUAA Accreditation Forum:“Innovation for Quality Education,” at the Álvares Penteado School of Commerce Foundation (FECAP), in São Paulo, Brazil.

Only three institutions of higher education per country were chosen across participating Latin American nations.

The 18 finalist institutions presented their innovation projects at the EQUAA conference, with just one winner in each category announced. EGADE Business School won first place in Mexico, with finalists institutions including the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and Universidad Iberoamericana. 

Armida Lozano, Director of International Programs, attended the presentation of the Master in Business Management on behalf of EGADE Business School, and received the award on behalf of the School. 

“The judging academics from different universities and business schools in Latin America and Spain, evaluated the educational innovation projects, choosing EGADE’s MBM program as the best in Mexico,” said Lozano, who also participated in a panel on Innovation and Educational Technology Trends as part of the forum.

Other institutions winning the 2019 EQUAA Awards were, in their respective countries: the State University of Mato Grosso, Brazil; the University of Development, Chile; EAFIT University, Colombia; ESAN University, Peru; and the 21st Century University, Argentina, which competed in the category of the rest of Latin America.

EGADE's MBM innovation as a new academic program was presented in a book on: “Cases of educational innovation in LATAM,” which was distributed among the attendees and participants of the forum.

EQUAA, organizer of the event, is an international educational accrediting organization based in Lima, Peru, and focused on global business schools with a particular interest in Latin America.
