SWIT projects, cases and programs since 2007

The following cases and projects were implemented using several tools and methodologies developed by the SWIT team (since 2007) and by C. Scheel, like Compstrac©, DiSC, Innovacities (with L. Pineda), Compstrin©, Modelos de Empresas de base tecnologica (with C. Ross), and Design of CEBMs.

  • Sustainable Plastic residues. Consulting for the Observatory of the Univ. Catolica de Chile. Sponsored by the IDB, Washington. Regulatory and financial status for plastic residues management for the Pacific countries. (March-2020)
  • Innovative and Circular Guayaquil. Project proposal to turn Guayaquil (Ecuador) into an innovative and circular city through the development of a regional system of innovation and entrepreneurship, under the focus of the SWIT (creating the conditions for the city to support a circular and large economy impact for its ecology and the business development of the city (Proposal, pending execution May, 2019-2020).
  • Circular Economy Business Design Workshop (CEBM) for the plastics industry. Workshop to develop a sustainable plastic industry for Ecuador. Sponsored by ASEPLAST and ESPOL, Guayaquil Ecuador. (Dec. 2018) (Methodology for the Creation of CE business models)
  • Building Capacities for a Sustainable Bartica (British Guyana). Project to transform the city of Bartica into a sustainable city by applying SWIT circular economy techniques, as part of the Green Guyana Strategy plan, Georgetown, Guyana, sponsored by UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program, Panama) In process. (2017-18)
  • Program for creating circular economy business models. Workshop for creating new (non-usual) circular economy businesses. EGADE, Monterrey, Sept-Dec 2016; National University, Bogotá, Colombia Nov. 2017; ACIEM Cartagena, Colombia, June 2018.
  • Development of Innovation and Technological Development Centers for the National University of Colombia. Development of the technological innovation plan for academic institutions in various cities in Colombia. The project was proposed jointly with the National University of Colombia to define the structure to transfer the research developments of the University to business models and to undertakings carried out by the University Faculty. (January 2015- April 2016)
  • Implementation of the Regional Circular Value System (CVES) in Higueras, Mexico. Application of the CVES model for the creation of sustainable wealth for the town of Higueras Nuevo León, an economic-environmental cluster assembly and a self-sustainable community network. (In process, from May 2014-2016 in implementation)
  • The ZRIES model applied to the recovery of residues from African palm oil. Colombia. Application of methodology (ZRIES; Zero Residues Industrial Ecology Systems) for the recovery and transformation of residues from the production of African palm oil for the company ECODIESEL (subsidiary of Ecopetrol) where the glycerol residues of the biofuel are being transformed into products of high economic value by biotechnological means (May 2014- Mar-2016). Research for the Federation of African Palm (Fedepalma) in Santa Marta, Colombia. In this project, the application of the ZRIES model was proposed for the generation of high-value products from the north of Colombia. (January 2016)
  • The ZRIES model applied for wastewater. Mexico. Design of a wastewater effluent waste recovery system for the food industry in the Monterrey metropolitan area, Mexico. (Proposal and design, for the tortilla industry August 2013)
  • Program: Transition beyond Sustainability (self-sustaining Communities undertaking) Mexico. Joint project with FEMSA to prepare a plan to promote projects that generate sustainable wealth for rural regions. The foundations of the Master Plan for the creation of self-sustaining communities were established. (January 2014-2015)
  • Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (CTI Program) for a sustainable regional development base. Colombia. Project in conjunction with the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia, COLCIENCIAS and the IDB, and co-responsible with L. Pineda. Application of methodology (Innovacities) and Compstrac © for the "Plan for the Development of Innovation Clusters" in various priority industrial sectors for the cities of Santa Marta and Cucuta in Colombia. Application of the results of the Innovacities model. (Project completed, 2013).
  • Measurement and analysis tools for the sustainable community indicator system. Joint project with the ITESM-CEMEX Chair and co-responsible for the Nathalie Galeano project. Development was proposed for two marginalized communities in Mexico. (Project completed, 2013)
  • Development of clustering strategies for innovation. Teaching of a workshop at EGADE Monterrey for Colombian personnel (businessmen and officials) using the Compstrac © Methodology for the implementation of clustering strategies. The project was sponsored by the Colombian Productivity Center and in collaboration with Leonel Guerra from EGAP. (Project finished, September 2012).
  • Clustering strategies for the logistics industry and the agricultural industry for the Atlantic Department in Colombia. Development of the "Science, Technology and Innovation Plan to support the Regional Innovation System of the Atlantic Department in Colombia for two industrial sectors (fishing and software). Project sponsored by the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia, with funds from Colciencias; and in collaboration with the Universidad del Rosario (responsible Leonardo Pineda). (Project finished, November 2012)
  • “0-waste” communities (Mexico). Model design and requirements to build communities capable of transforming all waste into nutrients and thus close the life cycle of materials within the community. Wealth-creation based on the innovation chain, where everything that enters the region is transformed, revalued and used as raw materials for other processes within the community. Project co-sponsored by CEMEX and Tecnológico de Monterrey. (Project completed, 2012).
  • Regional Innovation System for the city of Bogotá (Colombia). Plan to transform Bogotá into an Innovacity based on a strategy for creating wealth based on innovation and technology in high-value industrial sectors. Project sponsored by the Universidad del Rosario. (Project finished, August - December 2011)
  • Indicators of sustainable housing development in Mexico. Identification of the best practices for sustainable construction, specifically the norms and restrictions for sustainable construction in Mexico. Identification of the characteristics of the sustainable cities of the world. Project sponsored by CEMEX México. (Project completed, 2010)
  • Identification of value opportunities for the sustainable housing industry in Mexico. Identification of opportunities within the extended value system (EVS) of the sustainable housing industry. It consisted of housing construction, community planning, urban design and development of sustainable cities. Identification of relevant industry players, as well as the key to success driving factors and inhibiting the growth of the industry. Project sponsored by CEMEX México. (Project completed, 2010)
  • Regional innovation system for the city of Medellín and its Science, Technology and Innovation Plan. Colombia. Design and development of the bases to implement an innovation system (RIS) that supports innovation chains, of the generation of ideas, development, transfer, incubation of new business models and acceleration of new companies (mainly technology-based). Align the C + T chain and the city's development plan. Project sponsored by the municipality of Medellín, in conjunction with the company EPM and the Grupo Antioqueño, through the Ruta N. program. Co-directed by Leonardo Pineda (Project completed, 2010) www.rutanmedellin.org.
  • Latin American researchers’ network. Uruguay. Establishment of the norms for the assembly of virtual networks of groups of researchers in the Latin American region. Insertion of research groups in national networks of research and development institutions. IDB sponsored project for Red CLARA based in Montevideo, Uruguay. (Project completed, 2009 - 2010)
  • Sustainable Housing Cluster Assembly in Mexico. Cluster design of the sustainable construction industry. Identification of best practices in the world-class industry. Identification of the elements necessary to develop the Regional Innovation System to support the assembly of the cluster value system in Monterrey, Mexico. Project sponsored by CEMEX. (Project completed, 2009)
  • Value mobilization strategy for Industrial Clusters in Bolivia. Identification of business opportunities and the assembly of two clusters (quinoa and (vicuña and llama textile) for the Bolivian industry. Project in conjunction with the Bolivian Catholic University and partly sponsored by the IDB. (Project completed, 2008).
  • Monterrey, International City of Knowledge and Development of poles for the Software industry in Mexico. Development of industrial intelligence to take advantage of business opportunities for the software development industry in Nuevo León, Mexico. Fundamental information to formulate development strategies, design and planning of policies and strategies to develop the Regional Innovation System; and the necessary management for the creation, transfer and application of industrial integration projects. Project sponsored by the Monterrey Institute of Innovation and Technology Transfer (I2T2). (Project completed, 2008)
  • Strategy for the creation of the Information and Knowledge Society Agenda in Guatemala: Green Paper on the formulation of strategy and reduction of the Digital Divide to link ICTs with regional development. Development of strategies to reduce the digital divide and the alignment of the technological strategy with national competitiveness and the plans for Social Development in Guatemala. Projects aimed at supporting the productive sector (urban and rural), and the implementation of an integrated electronic government system. The roadmap for wealth creation based on technology, innovation and knowledge for developing countries was developed. Project sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through UNDP Guatemala. (Project completed, 2008)
  • GESTICON Program (Innovation, Technology and Knowledge Development) in France. Program designed for the training of entrepreneurs based on technology, as well as the generation of research and development centers in Latin America. Work was carried out in conjunction with the ENIM (Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Metz - Faculty of Engineering in Metz, France) (Training project completed, 2007).
