Cristina Vélez Valencia is Associate Dean for Applied Research and Outreach at EGADE Business School, Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Before joining Tecnológico de Monterrey, Cristina served as Dean of the School of Business at EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia, where she guided the school toward academic excellence, expanded the impact of applied research, strengthened partnerships with industry, and consolidated its global positioning. She oversaw the development of a robust portfolio of undergraduate, graduate, and executive education programs, serving over 7,000 students and learners supported by a team of 124 faculty and staff. Before joining EAFIT, Cristina served as Vice President for Public-Private Partnerships at the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá, where she spearheaded regional integration and economic development initiatives, led the Chamber's knowledge management hub, and facilitated impactful collaborations that advanced sustainability, social impact, and business competitiveness. She has also advised multilateral organizations and governments on development, impact investing, and multi-sectoral collaboration.
In the public sector, Cristina served as Secretary for Social Integration in the municipal government of Bogotá, where she led a department with over 9500 employees and a budget of more than $360 million, orchestrating significant social policies—such as the city's migration crisis response, which shaped national decisions—and championing gender equity and support for vulnerable groups. She also served as Secretary for Women's Affairs in the same government, where she led the design of large-scale social transformation programs.
Cristina was named a Yale University Greenberg World Fellow in 2020 and has also been a professor at Yale University. She has also served as an adjunct Professor at Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica, the Department of Management of Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administración (CESA), and at the Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia, as well as at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom. She has contributed internationally as a visiting researcher in the areas of transformative leadership, sustainable development, democracy, and collective action.
Cristina currently serves on several boards, including BBVA Colombia, Pragma S.A., Fundación Carulla, Profamilia, Invest in Bogotá, and the Bogotá Convention Bureau. She is also a member of the Latin American and Caribbean Advisory Council (LAAC) of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Latin American Advisory Board of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (AMBA & BGA).
