The initiative to hire the best profiles does not, by itself, guarantee high organizational performance. Behind sustainable success lies a business culture that supports, integrates, and amplifies talent.

In the latest episode of Territorio Negocios, titled "The Talent Trap – When Hiring the Best Is Not Enough", and hosted by Pablo Necoechea, Regional Director of EGADE Business School in Mexico City and Querétaro, this topic was discussed by Juan Ignacio Sánchez, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Capital at EGADE Business School, and Brenda Leal, Human Capital Director at Roca Desarrollos.

Leal explained that success does not depend solely on the individual and that performance does not arise from isolated talent. She emphasized that “we can hire the best profile on the market, but if the environment doesn’t drive them to grow, that talent fades little by little.”

Sánchez went deeper into the need to identify adaptable talent. He explained that organizations require “hiring people who not only have the talent I need today, but who have the capacity, the agility to acquire the talent I will need tomorrow,” highlighting the importance of continuous learning.

In the area of leadership, Leal emphasized, “Sometimes, many leaders confuse control with direction. And this is the small nuance that can make a big difference.”

The specialists also addressed the connection between purpose and performance, noting that future organizations will not necessarily be those that pay the most, but those that best connect with the meaning and purpose of their employees.

Leal recalled that mistakes must be embraced as part of growth, stating that “when a leader dares to say ‘I was wrong,’ it opens a space where innovation becomes possible,” reinforcing that vulnerability builds trust within teams.
