Workplace happiness is increasingly considered a strategic element within modern organizations. Empathy, purpose, and autonomy are emerging as decisive factors in productivity and well-being.
In this episode of Territorio Negocios, hosted by Pablo Necoechea, Regional Director of EGADE Business School in Mexico City and Querétaro, participants included Enrique Tamés, Professor in the Department of Strategy and Leadership at EGADE Business School, and Rogelio Blanco, Partner and General Director of Agora Mexico.
Blanco highlighted that new generations face a “chronic dissatisfaction” marked by digitalization and social changes. “Happiness at this point in our lives is quite overestimated. And even more so in the professional field,” he added.
Tamés noted that, in recent years, the sense of happiness in developed countries has declined. Both agreed that subjective well-being does not depend solely on external factors but on the alignment between individual and collective goals.
“When organizations build their vision bottom-up, the level of commitment among people within the organization increases considerably,” added Tamés, comparing it to traditional organizations that employ a top-down, hierarchical approach.
Blanco, for his part, emphasized the importance of transparency and honesty from the beginning of any work relationship. He mentioned that if someone joins his team, it is essential that they feel part of a shared vision and a strong culture.
Regarding the role of leadership, Tamés explained that when a leader is aligned with the organization's culture, the results in well-being are significantly better than when misalignment exists.
Finally, the experts agreed that happiness can become a competitive advantage. “The happy company will likely perform much better in all its performance indicators than the one that is not,” stated Blanco.
