With final investment results presented at BBVA Tower in Mexico City, the 2025 edition of the BBVA-EGADE Fund Clinic has come to a close—an exceptional educational experience in Latin America that bridges theory and practice in real investment portfolio management.

Held from April to August, this flagship initiative of the Master in Finance at EGADE Business School, Tecnológico de Monterrey, gathered students from the Monterrey and Santa Fe locations, who took on the challenge of designing and executing real investment strategies using capital allocated by BBVA Asset Management Mexico.

Throughout the clinic, students applied advanced investment methodologies, conducted risk management, developed market strategies, and performed fundamental, technical, and quantitative analyses, all under the guidance of an investment committee and site-based subcommittees comprised of expert faculty.

TWO TEAMS, ONE FUND

Divided into two teams—one per campus—the students managed a combined real investment portfolio of 32 million Mexican pesos. Each member took on a professional role such as Portfolio Manager, Trader, Back Office Analyst, Middle Office Analyst, Fundamental Analyst, or Technical Analyst.

  • The Monterrey team included Alejandro Mejía, Judith García, Ricardo Franco, Gilberto Jiménez, Miguel Vettorazzi, Christian Núñez, Enrique Medina, Luis Weinmann, and Enzo Landucci, mentored by professors Jorge Velarde and Ignacio Arriaga.

  • The Santa Fe team was formed by Alejandro Carrión, Marcos García, Miguel A. Falcón, Eduardo Facha, Luis R. Ortiz, Miguel A. Rendón, Akpoboghene Oki, Ramiro Villarreal, and Claudia Jiménez, guided by professors Igor Rivera and Gerardo Salazar.

From BBVA, the clinic was supervised by Luis Ángel Rodríguez Amestoy, Director of BBVA Asset Management Mexico, and Julio Sánchez, Chief Investment Officer at BBVA Mexico.

“Their innovative proposals and the exchange of experiences were truly inspiring. The energy and commitment of these future leaders reaffirm my belief in a bright future for finance,” Rodríguez Amestoy shared on social media following the final presentations.

BEYOND THEORY: A COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

The clinic pursued both academic and financial goals. In this edition, teams aimed to outperform a benchmark designated by BBVA and rank among the top five comparable funds in a selected market sample.

Over the semester, students strengthened their understanding of the legal framework of the capital markets, the functioning of stock indices and ETFs, backtesting, and investment strategy design. They also honed essential skills in negotiation, teamwork, decision-making under pressure, and market discipline.

Launched in 1999, the Fund Clinic's mission is to train ethical, technically sound, and globally competitive investment managers, capable of preserving and growing investment fund assets through research-based strategies, informed risk-taking, and deep analytical rigor.

Thanks to its hands-on approach, scale, and educational rigor, the BBVA-EGADE Fund Clinic stands as a unique investment education model in Latin America.
