On May 30 and 31, EGADE Business School held the 2025 edition of EGADE U Week, under the theme “Leading with AI”, bringing together business leaders, technology experts, and the EXATEC EGADE community to explore the significant challenges and opportunities of the artificial intelligence era.
This special edition, part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the school, featured the Global AI Summit, part of the commemorative series The Next 30: Shaping the Future. It fostered conversations on the strategic, ethical, and organizational impact of AI on business. Through keynote conferences, high-level panels, workshops, and networking sessions, participants explored how AI is redefining work and decision-making.
From analyzing global trends to strengthening new leadership capabilities, the two-day event offered a space for learning, transformation, and inspiration for those who are leading the present and building the future.
The event was inaugurated by Horacio Arredondo, Dean of EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey, who emphasized the school’s institutional commitment to the future:
“At EGADE, we are committed to rethinking the future of business to impact the sustainable development of Latin America positively. This purpose drives us to challenge paradigms, to connect with diverse sectors, and to lead critical conversations like the one that brings us together today,” he said.
VISIONS FOR THE FUTURE OF AI
Keynote speakers included Salvador Orozco, Regional Vice President for Spanish Latin America at Gartner, who delivered “The Future of Generative AI”, outlining a strategic view on how this technology is transforming business and society.
Rafael Sánchez, President and CEO of Microsoft Mexico and President of CANIETI, stated in his talk “Accelerating Transformation with AI” that GenAI is democratizing access to intelligence and unlocking unprecedented opportunities.
Meanwhile, Mike Walsh, CEO of Tomorrow and global futurist, presented “Redefining Leadership for the AI Era”, arguing that future leadership must focus on managing human change, not just predicting technological shifts:
“The AI revolution is not technological—it is economic and social. The future is what we choose to build.”
AI IN PRACTICE AND KEY LEADERSHIP SKILLS
The panel “Generative AI in Practice in Latin America” featured Mauricio Torres, President and CEO of IBM Mexico, Felipe Bueno, Global Director of Digital Services and eCommerce at CEMEX, Francisco Moreno y Rojas, VP of Administration and Strategic Planning at CNBV, and Alejandro Suárez, CIO at Sigma Alimentos, moderated by Alexandra Solano, Head of the Digital Transformation Hub at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Torres stressed that "the speed is such that there's no time for disillusionment," and emphasized that the main obstacle is not technical but human:
"The problem is not technological—the main challenge is people’s fear of changing how they work.”
Another key session was the “Leadership Forum: Current Applications and Future Possibilities”, with Ángela Gómez, COO at Grupo AXO, Ivone Mejía, Commercial Director of Solutions at Microsoft Mexico, and Luis Villanueva, VP of Global Services at Capgemini, moderated by Osmar Arandia, Associate Dean of Executive Education at EGADE.
Gómez outlined five key leadership skills for today’s business environment: AI literacy, risk management, technical training, cross-functional collaboration, and technological alignment with business goals.
“AI is not going to replace us; it should make us smarter,” she noted.
SOVEREIGNTY, ETHICS & NEW FORMS OF AI CREATION
Christopher Sánchez, CEO of Emergent Line and Global Visiting Faculty at EGADE Business School, launched a debate on Sovereign AI, governance, and ethics, inviting participants to reflect on who controls AI, under what principles it is built, and how to ensure it serves collective, sovereign, and ethical purposes.
The “Agentic Gen AI” hackathon offered a collaborative and provocative experience led by Alejandro Correa, Senior Global Director of AI at AB InBev and EGADE professor, and Diego Halffter, Partner and CTO at Brain Food, exploring generative AI solutions capable of acting autonomously, adapting to context, and creating real value for business and society.
Engel Fonseca, Founder of Neurona Digital, delivered an immersive experience designed to challenge our perception of AI and inspire us to take control of the present using technologies that are already shaping the future of work and human creativity.
Enrique Cortés, Director of the AI Hub at Tecnológico de Monterrey, presented a strategic vision of how to lead with AI at the core of business—from decision-making to organizational culture.
EGADE U Week is the flagship lifelong learning program for the EXATEC EGADE community—offering a platform to reconnect with the school, expand networks, and explore the trends transforming business.
Once again, alumni came together to learn, be inspired, and celebrate leadership that transforms realities—within an ecosystem that challenges the status quo to drive business transformation and its positive impact on society, from Latin America to the world.
