At a pivotal moment for Mexico’s energy transition, Luis Plata Cavazos has emerged as an influential voice and forward-looking leader in the solar power sector.
An alumnus of the Energy Management Specialization (EAE’18) and currently a student in the Master in Finance at EGADE Business School, Luis is the founder and CEO of Girasolve Energy, a Mexican company that since 2015 has developed photovoltaic solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial markets.
His career has been recognized both nationally and internationally. In 2023, he was named one of the Innovators Under 35 Latin America by MIT Technology Review en español. Previously, he received the 2021 National Youth Award and the 2019 State Youth Award of Nuevo León for his leadership and commitment to sustainable development.
More recently, he represented Mexico at the 2nd Global Installer Summit, organized by Huawei FusionSolar in Shenzhen and Dongguan, China, where he achieved fourth place globally in the Best Installer Contest and shared his vision for the country’s energy future with more than 500 global leaders from the photovoltaic industry.
“Only 5.1% of the country’s electricity generation currently comes from solar energy. We need to triple our installed capacity to meet the national clean energy target,” he stated during the event.
Luis closely follows Mexico’s energy policy agenda. According to the National Energy Plan presented in 2024 by the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum, at least 16% of electricity generation must come from solar power if the nation is to reach the goal of 45% renewable generation by 2030.
Through Girasolve, Luis promotes a business model focused on sustainability and inclusion: more than 35% of the team is made up of women, including solar installers, and over 20% of the vehicle fleet is electric. The company also develops social impact projects, such as electrifying rural schools across Mexico.
“Climate change is real, and raising awareness is a core part of our mission. Selling solar systems is not just about lowering electricity bills — it’s about protecting the only planet we can live on,” he affirms with conviction.
Luis is part of a new generation of EXATEC EGADE leaders who combine technical knowledge, business vision, and social purpose to transform Mexico’s energy present. His story inspires our community to drive change through action.
